A young man, on the advice of an agent, lies that he is married, to go to America. But his visa application is rejected and now, he has to follow-up with a string of lies to hide one lie.

Dasrath Joglekar (Nana Patekar), a celebrated writer, travels to Delhi to receive the prestigious Literary Award. During the journey he meets a young film maker (Nakul Vaid), an ardent fan of Dasrath’s writing and the encounter brings back memories from the past. Memories from the past and passion bring him to Mehendi galli where people flock to enjoy mujra dances. The entire area has changed. Lajvanti alias Lajobai has become Miss Lisa, presenting popular film songs numbers to entertain a new clientele. Dasarath’s sudden appearance is a great surprise for Lajvanti. The character of his novel Janaza comes alive at an unexpected juncture. Lajvanti shows her reverence to Dasrath by singing melodies from their past. Fate accomplices another journey into the unknown is created.

Ratan (Rakesh Roshan) is a self-styled, and rather compulsive do-gooder. His manner often alienates him from his superiors and bosses, and he often ends up getting fired. He comes across Sujata (Rati Agnihotri) and her family, and finds out that Sujata cannot get married because her father (Sujit Kumar) is not wealthy enough to afford a dowry. Ratan decides to get involved indirectly and secretly arranges Sujata's marriage with Mr. Mehra (Vinod Mehra). But will this land Ratan in trouble all over again? Is this what Sujata and Mr. Mehra really want?

Raju comes from a middle-class family, and lives with his mother. He meets with nurse Shobha, and both fall in love. The only problem is that Raju somehow or other always gets mixed up in problems, and ends up getting in trouble with the police. As a result, he ends up getting in jail very often. One day he really gets into trouble by antagonizing a notorious gangster, and has to run for his life. Due to his "trouble maker" character no one really believes him, and it is upto him to save himself from this problem, without ending up in prison again.
